Intensive Driving Courses and Course Structure
You may wish to learn to drive as quickly as possible, it may be because a job depends upon you holding a full licence, or you may have been learning for a while with lots of breaks and feel you require to be more focused; perhaps you have been able to take a week or two away from a busy work schedule. You may simply want to enjoy the independence that driving brings as soon as you can.
The structure is designed to fit around your needs and with your best interest in mind not ours. Because there will always be some delay in obtaining a test date you may wish to use a week or two weeks to do the bulk of your training and then catch up to test standard over the few weeks to test day or, provided you are an experienced learner and wish to leave your training to the week before you test we recommend you do something sooner to be more prepared should a short notice test become available. Alternatively, if you are unable to get time away from work, you may prefer to spread your training over the few weeks available. You will not be submitted to a rigid timetable or be expected to cram in too much training in a short space of time. Our unique booking process guarantees your priority, and you will either have your theory test booked immediately, then your practical test booked as soon as this is passed; or your practical test booked straight away if appropriate. We do not recommend beginners try to cram their training into the week before the test and we do not advise anyone to do pre-test intensive training during the evenings especially in the winter months when it is dark. Thus you will need to make available at least the two or three just prior to test day.
Lesson Structure
Time and Space instructors will teach you to drive in a structured manner according to the DSA approved syllabus. This means that control and safe procedures are studied first, followed by more complex tasks as you gain experience and confidence.
You will progress through three stages of learning.
Beginner: when you will be instructed in certain basic tasks involving car control and safe road procedures.
Intermediate: as basic tasks are mastered you will still need prompting in order to reinforce safe procedures and ensure effective control. New subjects will be introduced under full instruction.
Experienced: you will be left alone to drive being prompted only to avoid the omission of a safe procedure such as a vital mirror check or to avoid a control fault as in moving away in the wrong gear.
Finally you will undertake mock tests to ensure your suitability for the DSA practical driving test.
Throughout your course of driver education and training, you will learn the importance of a good driving attitude and how, by anticipating other road users’ actions you can avoid stress and maintain a high tolerance of others’ poor behaviour or errors. This is known as defensive driving and forms the basis of all of the DSA approved procedures.
